The Sacked Traditional Of Alor- Chief Mcanthony Elibe Okonkwo

*Grants Perpetual Injunction Restraining Okonkwo From Parading Himself As The Igwe Of Alor
*President-General Of Alor Peoples Convention Hails The Decision As Judgement For Alor People

The Anambra State High Court has on February 17, 2022 in a suit between Chinedu Elibe Okonkwo v Alor Peoples Convention and Chief Uzoma Igbonwa nullified the enthronement of Okonkwo as Igwe of Alor by the defunct Caretaker Committee of Alor Peoples’ Convention on the basis that Alor People’s Convention Constitution was grossly violated and due process were not followed.

The court held that Okonkwo was never qualified to be Igwe of Alor in the first place and that the Caretaker Committee lacked the powers to dabble into or kick-start the process of filling the stool of the Igwe of Alor.

Other reliefs granted in the suit are order of Perpetual Injunction restraining Okonkwo from parading himself as Igwe of Alor. His certificate of recognition as Igwe from the Anambra State government was also nullified

Chief Uzoma Igbonwa was declared by the court as the authentic President-General of Alor Peoples’ Convention having been elected on February 17, 2019 for a 4-year tenure pursuant to the Judgement of the High Court of Anambra State delivered on February 5th, 2019. The court Ordered Igbonwa to kick-start the process of selection and enthronement of Ezediohamma 111 of Alor to replace late Ezediohamma 11 of Alor.

The Court reversed the change of name of Alor Peoples’ Convention to Alor Peoples’ Assembly on the basis that the change of name did not fully observe due process.

Furthermore, the court declared the 2011 Alor Peoples’ Convention Constitution which repealed and replaced the 1992 Constitution as the authentic Constitution of Alor Peoples’ Convention. It also declared that Uruezeani Village being the most senior in Ifite Section of Alor should produce a qualified candidate for the stool of Igwe of Alor.

Igbonwa described the decision of the High Court as judgement of the Alor People. He said the hard copy will hopefully be available by next week.

He said, “My dear Alor people, this is the summary of the today’s high court judgement. Hopefully by next week, the hard copy of the judgement will be out and I will share same to you.

“I have always said that WHAT WE ARE DOING IN ALOR IS SPIRITUAL. Today’s judgement is for Alor people, and as such, Alor can not win Alor; hence no victor no vanquished. By the Grace of Almighty God, I will now kick-start the healing process and reconciliation. I appeal for your cooperation because Alor is for all of us.
