Staff of the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, have been directed to fully comply with the nationwide industrial action scheduled to commence on Monday, June 2, 2025, as earlier announced by the national leadership of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN).

In a circular signed by Comrade Binta Rajab, Chairman of JUSUN at the Court of Appeal, Abuja, workers were instructed to remain at home until further notice from the union’s executive committee. The notice reaffirmed JUSUN’s earlier directive, issued from its National Headquarters on May 30, 2025.

“This is to reconfirm to you that strike will hold tomorrow 2nd June 2025 as earlier stated,” the circular reads. “We urge you all to stay back in your houses until further directive from the JUSUN Exco.”

The memo, addressed to all staff of the Court of Appeal, emphasized the importance of unity across the judiciary in pursuing improved welfare and institutional respect for the judicial arm of government.

“The struggle is for all of us in the judiciary, irrespective of the hierarchy of courts—whether upper or lower court,” the union stated. “Judiciary remains the focus, and as an arm of government, we should be treated as such.”

The statement further appealed for solidarity among judicial workers, stating that only collective action can secure the desired improvements.

“We are appealing for your maximum cooperation, as it is together we can win the struggle. Aluta continua, victoria ascerta.”

The directive was issued on official Court of Appeal JUSUN letterhead and included signatures from the union’s full executive committee, including Treasurer Comr. Mohammed Danjuma, P.R.O. Comr. Rahmat Zakari, and Legal Officer Comr. Nyior Sekulla, among others.

While some arms of the judiciary, including the Supreme Court and the National Judicial Council (NJC), have indicated they will not be participating in the industrial action following the intervention of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the Court of Appeal workers have made clear their intent to proceed as planned.
