The Court of Appeal in Lagos has commenced hearing appeals filed by LP and PDP candidates seeking to upturn Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s victory in the March 2023 election.
A three-man panel informed the court on Monday that their judgment on the matter would be unanimous.
LP’s Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour and PDP’s Olajide Adediran had approached the appellate court after losing their challenge against Sanwo-Olu’s election at the state election tribunal in September.
The tribunal had affirmed the incumbent governor’s victory after the March 18 polls, dismissing petitions filed by the opposition parties.
Rhodes-Vivour and Adediran now want the higher court to set aside Sanwo-Olu’s election on grounds that he was unlawfully returned by INEC.
The Appeal Court panel is expected to deliver judgment on the validity of Sanwo-Olu’s re-election following conclusion of hearing arguments and filings by parties involved.
