Ekemezie was arrested following a petition written by the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. He was first arraigned by the anti-graft agency on September 4, 2018, on six counts bordering on possession of a document containing false representation, but he pleaded not guilty to the charges. Following a plea bargain application, the convict was re-arraigned on amended six counts bordering on possession of a document containing false representation. One of the charges read, “That you, Joseph Ekemezie, sometime in the month of June 2018 at Ikeja, within the jurisdiction of the honourable court, with intent to defraud, had in your possession a document containing false representation to wit; California driving licence, which you knew to be false.” In view of the convict’s plea, Justice Dada sentenced him to one-year imprisonment. She said, “The prosecution counsel, Temitope Banjo, has proved the case beyond reasonable doubt, which clearly showed that the defendant is guilty of the charges preferred against him. “I, therefore, convict and sentence the defendant to one-year imprisonment and the sentence will start from the day he was remanded in prison custody, which was September 4, 2018.”]]>
