The Police Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi, Lagos, has secured an order of the Federal High Court to declare a fleeing businesswoman, Uyime Akpan, wanted over an alleged N28.5m fraud.

Justice Friday Ogazi granted the order after hearing an ex parte motion marked FHC/L/MISC/1410/2025, filed and argued by Mr M.Y. Bello, a Chief Superintendent of Police in the Legal/Prosecution Department of the PSFU.

In the suit, the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Immigration Service, and the Nigeria Customs Service were listed as co-respondents.

The PSFU asked the court to issue an order declaring Akpan wanted and placing her on the unit’s official wanted list pending her arrest and prosecution.

The police also sought permission to publish her name in national newspapers and on their social media platforms to aid her arrest.

While moving the application, Bello told the court that the motion was supported by an affidavit, a written address, and documentary exhibits.

He urged the court to grant the application in the interest of justice and to enable the arrest and possible prosecution of the suspect.

In his ruling, Justice Ogazi held that the application had merit and granted the reliefs sought.

“Having carefully considered the application and the submissions of counsel, there is merit in granting the relief sought,” the judge ruled.

He accordingly ordered that Uyime Akpan be declared wanted and placed on the wanted list of the Police Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi, until her arrest and prosecution.

The court also granted leave to the PSFU to publish her name in national newspapers and on its social media platforms for the purpose of enforcing the order.

“It is hereby ordered as follows: “An Order of this Court is made that the 1st Respondent be declared wanted and placed on the wanted list of the Nigeria Police Special Fraud Unit, 13, Milverton Road, Ikoyi, Lagos until he is arrested for Prosecution.

“That leave is hereby granted for the Publication of the name of the 1st Respondent in the National Daily Newspapers and social media handles by the Nigeria Police Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi, Lagos, for the purpose of fulfilling the requirement of the Order above.”
