A Magistrate Court sitting in Tudun Wada, Kano State, has convicted three men for obstructing and threatening personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps during a routine enforcement operation.

The convicts, identified as Sani Saidu, Ma’arazu Sani and Suwedi Muhammad, were found guilty of criminal conspiracy, obstructing public servants in the discharge of their lawful duties, and assaulting public servants with threats to cause injury.

The Public Education Officer of the FRSC Kano Sector Command, Abdullahi Labaran, disclosed the conviction in a statement issued on Thursday.

According to the statement, the three men were arrested on July 10, 2026, after they allegedly obstructed FRSC patrol personnel conducting a routine enforcement exercise.

They were also accused of inciting members of the public against the officers while they were carrying out their official duties.

Following their arrest, the suspects were handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Tudun Wada Division, for investigation and prosecution.

They were subsequently arraigned before the Magistrate Court on July 14, where they pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them.

The court convicted them under Sections 96, 148 and 263 of the Penal Code.

For the offence of criminal conspiracy, the court sentenced each of the convicts to three weeks’ imprisonment or the payment of a ₦30,000 fine.

Each was also sentenced to one month’s imprisonment or a ₦40,000 fine for obstructing public servants in the discharge of their lawful duties.

For assaulting public servants and threatening to cause injury, the court imposed an additional sentence of two weeks’ imprisonment or a fine of ₦20,000 on each convict.

The alternative fines imposed on each of the three men consequently amounted to ₦90,000.

The court informed the convicts that they had the right to appeal against the judgment within 30 days.

Reacting to the conviction, the FRSC Kano Sector Commander, Corps Commander Idris Mohammed Lawal, commended the judiciary and the Nigeria Police Force for ensuring that the offenders were investigated and prosecuted.

Lawal warned that anyone who obstructs or assaults FRSC personnel carrying out lawful duties would be made to face prosecution in accordance with the law.

He urged motorists and other members of the public to cooperate with road safety personnel and allow them to perform their statutory responsibilities without interference.
