The National Industrial Court has criticized the suspended Clerk of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Olalekan Onafeko, for resorting to self-help, clarifying that it never ordered his reinstatement, as falsely reported by some media outlets.
Contrary to reports suggesting that the court had directed Onafeko to resume office, leading to his forceful takeover of the acting Clerk Taiwo Ottun’s office, the court emphasized that its directive was solely to maintain peace.
At the resumed hearing, Justice M. N. Esowe expressed dismay over the misrepresentation of the court’s position. He stated that the court had only instructed all parties involved to refrain from any actions that could disrupt the peace of the state until the motion on notice was heard.
The judge adjourned the case to March 18 for the hearing of pending applications, stressing that the claimant’s actions were a misinterpretation of the court’s order.
