Kayode Egbetokun, inspector general of police (IGP) says the Nigeria Police Force is committed to environmental sustainability through the Nigeria Police Green Initiatives (NPGI).

According to a statement on Monday, Egbetokun spoke at the ongoing COP28 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), on the topic, “Saving people with environment”.

The IGP said the police are committed to addressing environmental challenges and fostering sustainable practices in the country.

Egbetokun said NPGI aims to align with global efforts to combat climate change impacts and contribute to the energy transition.

He said Nigeria police would be actively involved in facilitating energy transition initiatives in support of the global shift to renewable energy.

The police chief said the force would implement programmes such as tree planting in all the commands, the use of gas to drive patrol vans, as well as campaign for renewable energy initiatives in the country.

The IGP called for collaboration among stakeholders, governments, and communities to address environmental challenges and enhance sustainability in Nigeria.
