The controversial ruling of the Federal High Court in Kano on the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Law 2024, as well as the complete audio clip of the ruling and the ex parte order allegedly disobeyed by the Kano State Government, are now available for download. .

The ruling, delivered by Hon. Justice A. M. Liman on Thursday, June 20, 2024, amid much public interest and debate.

The case, filed by Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan Agundi (Sarkin Dawaki Babba) against the Kano State Government and other defendants, sought to challenge the steps taken under the contentious law, which has sparked widespread discussions among legal experts, political analysts, and the general public.

In the 5-page document, the court ordered the annulment and setting aside of all steps taken by the defendants in pursuance of the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Law 2024. However, the court clarified that this order does not affect the validity of the law itself, which will be determined in the substantive suit, adding to the complexity of the case.

The court also refused the plaintiff’s request to extend the order to the validity of the law and maintained its earlier directive for parties to maintain the status quo ante, further fueling the controversy surrounding the ruling.

In addition to the written judgment, the complete audio clip of the ruling and the ex parte order, which the Kano State Government allegedly disobeyed, are now accessible to the public. This unprecedented move by the court aims to provide full transparency and allow for a comprehensive understanding of the ruling and its implications.

To access a certified true copy of the ruling and the audio clips, interested parties can visit the Federal High Court’s website (www.fhc.gov.ng) and navigate to the “Judgments & Rulings” section.
