The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has confirmed that the sexual assault case involving TikTok user Mirabel (@mirab351), who claimed she was raped in her apartment by a stranger, has been referred to the relevant authorities in Ogun State.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the agency said it had successfully contacted a close friend of the survivor, who confirmed that she had been discharged from the hospital.

The case, which quickly went viral online under the hashtag #StopRapingWomen on X (formerly Twitter), sparked widespread public concern, with thousands urging urgent action against sexual assault and better protection for survivors.

“Following our earlier statement and the widespread public response, we successfully established communication with a close friend of the survivor who confirmed that she had been discharged from the hospital,” the agency said. “We sincerely appreciate members of the public who provided helpful information via our direct messages, as well as everyone who tagged the Agency to ensure swift intervention.”

According to reports, the alleged assault occurred on Sunday, February 15, and the survivor shared her experience publicly the following day.

The DSVA clarified that the incident took place in Ogun State, which falls outside its jurisdiction. “In the spirit of interagency collaboration and survivor protection, all relevant information at our disposal has been forwarded to the appropriate authorities in Ogun State,” the statement added.

The agency expressed confidence that the Ogun State Police Command is handling the matter and expects the survivor to cooperate fully with authorities to ensure a thorough investigation.

“We understand that the Ogun State Police Command is currently handling the matter, and we trust that the survivor will fully cooperate with the appropriate authorities to enable a thorough investigation and due process,” the statement read.

DSVA also reiterated its ongoing commitment to support survivors and maintain accessible reporting channels, providing multiple contacts for assistance, including a direct line (0813-796-0048), a toll-free number (0-8000-333-333), MTN USSD code (*6820#), and WhatsApp AI Chatbox (0812-893-7058).

Meanwhile, neighbours in Mirabel’s compound have disputed her claims. One neighbour said, “The rape did not happen. I did not hear any shout when the alleged incident happened. What is paining me is that she lied that her mom passed a few days ago, and the whole compound contributed money for her. I went through her page and saw that she posted about her mom’s passing last December.”

Another neighbour added, “I’ve seen her with a man before. He comes around often, and they take ‘somethings’. I don’t believe her story. We saw Mirabel when she was leaving the compound; she was walking perfectly and wore baggy jeans. A guy came to pick her up.”

The DSVA continues to urge the public to provide any relevant information that may aid in the investigation and to support survivors of sexual violence.
