The Joint Admission Matriculation Board has said the goal of Central Admission Processing System was achieved in the 2021 admission process.

This was stated in the 2021 policy document signed by JAMB registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede.

It said CAPS was being used as vehicle for all admissions since its introduction during the 2017/2018 admissions exercise after series of engagements with stakeholders, adding that the 2020/2021 admission was also not an exception.

The report explained that the CAPS had been able “to restored autonomy to the Institutions with regards to admission process ,transparency, openness & accountability in the admission process, market place to source for candidates, involvement of candidates in the admission process.

“Candidates upload O’ Level results from CAPS, institutions also direct candidates to upload same results on institution portal, some candidates after uploading to institution portal do not upload on CAPS. From 2021 admission exercise, no institution should mandate candidates to upload O’ level results on institution portal, Candidates’ O’ level results will be made available automatically to institutions, institutions will have to download available candidates’ O’ level results per programme before they can initiate admission process for each programme.”

It also stated that there was need to review the admission criteria to make it more accessible and inclusive for persons with disabilities and foreign students.

“There is the need to review the formula to make our institutions more national as envisaged in the inclusion of catchment area in the criteria which has been so abused, international inclusion of foreign candidates, it should be more inclusive and inclusion of special needs candidates, more realistic in restoring and recognising some discretionary admissions, nationalisation of localised national Institutions.”
