The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Frederic Oladehinde, has said the introduction of the cashless policy for toll payment on the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge is to eliminate the gridlock experienced by motorists at the toll plaza.

He stated this while monitoring the cashless toll payments on Thursday.

Oladehinde noted that the new mode of payment had brought significant improvement to vehicular movement at the toll plaza by saving travel time and easing traffic movement along the corridor.

The commissioner, however, said some motorists were sabotaging the new policy by making photocopies of their payment vouchers for multiple usage.

He said the state government would not hesitate to apply the law on anyone that attempted to frustrate its effort at improving traffic movements through corrupt practices.

He said, “The new toll cashless policy will be a very good experience for Lagosians when it is fully stabilised. After monitoring vehicular movements at the toll plaza this morning, no motorist spent more than one to two seconds before they were electronically passed, having shown their e-payment vouchers or other devices. Those that had delays were the recalcitrant ones who were not ready to comply with any of the four cashless payment options as earlier stated.”

The Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Lekki Concession Company Limited, Yomi Omomuwase, said motorists could make e-payments through E-tag, voucher, E-card and the LCC mobile app.
