The Registrar General of Corporate Affairs Commission, A.G. Abubakar, Esq has assured lawyers, customers and stakeholders of improved customer relations and delivery times for the Commission’s services.

He made this known to lawyers, accredited customers and stakeholders who attended a one-day training in Abuja with the theme: Enlightenment/Sensitization Training on Beneficial Ownership Information Disclosure & Annual Return Electronic Filing System. The training was organized by the Cooperate Affairs Commission.

At the training program, stakeholders in attendance had urged the Commission to enhance customer relations and delivery times while commending successful reforms implemented so far.

The Registrar General of CAC responded during the feedback session and said that the CAC Customer Care Line would be operational in two weeks and operate first from 9 am to 6 pm and afterwards for 24 hours.

He also responded to inquiries on the reasons for firms having an inactive status, how a foreign registered company would function in Nigeria, and if a foreign company may serve as a director of a Nigerian company.

Regarding the “Inactive” status, the RG made it clear that an inactive firm is one whose payment of the Annual Return is past due.

The purpose of the training, according to him, was to give accredited customers the knowledge and abilities they need to file electronically, automatically change their company’s status from Inactive to Active, and take advantage of the advantages that come with being an Active Company in the eyes of Nigerian law.

“The majority of those who claimed to have paid may have skipped some years, and when being briefed, most rely on information given to them by their client, which may not be a true representation of the status of the company with regards to how many years they are in default or how many years they skipped.” He further stated that any company after paying her annual returns to date, and the status did not change to “Active,” such a company should write the commission.

He added that in the event that there is a dispute over any document(s) supplied by the customer to CAC, the customer shall going forward be held accountable for the authenticity or lack thereof. He also advised the audience to exercise due diligence as professionals to ensure that their clients are not abusing them. In such cases, he said, the individual submitting the papers will face legal action.

During the feedback session, the customers expressed gratitude for the way the Registrar General personally addressed their grievances and hoped that future interactions would take place on a quarterly basis.

Lawyers, stakeholders, and company secretaries in Lagos and the surrounding areas are invited to make an effort to attend the next one-day workshop, which will be held at the Airport Hotel Ikeja in Lagos on November 24, 2022, according to Ramah of CAC Media Team.
