The Corporate Affairs Commission has directed the mandatory use of the National Identity Number (NIN) in the verification of all processes and applications with the commission.

In a notice dated December 12, but made in furtherance to an earlier warning by the commission dated November 11, the commission notes that from the new year, the NIN would be the sole mandatory means of identification and ‘applicants would be required to type the NIN in the appropriate fields on online application forms.

The directive which would see full enforcement from the 1st of January, 2023, comes after a series of extensions by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to enable citizens duly register and size up the national (data) registry.
