Former Anambra State Governor Chukwuemeka Ezeife, has said that President Muhamadu Buhari is dealing with the people of the South-East region because they failed to vote for him during elections.

Ezeife said that when Buhari said that those perpetrating the crime must be killed and tortured, he was supposed to find out those committing the crime, stressing that narrowing it down to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) was deliberate to destroy the young men in the region.

The former governor in a chat with DAILY INDEPENDENT said, “Today what they do in the South-East is go to homes, pick young men and kill them. Who will defend them? Who will fight for us? It appears that there is a strategy to wipe out our youths.

“We should keep praying because the way things are now, it is only God that can help us. We pray God to change the heart of Buhari and make him realize that the fact that we didn’t vote for him as much as he wanted, doesn’t make us a permanent enemy to be killed.”

Responding to the question of the silence of the governors as alleged in some quarters, Ezeife said it was not easy for some of the governors in the region because the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has gathered information about them and they are blackmailing them with such information.

“Very soon we would have a leadership group that will not be intimidated by any EFCC, leaders who could be hungry and would not want to take any food. The media should help us to propagate some of these things. We are not happy with the treatment the President is giving us. The older people don’t want us to rush out of Nigeria, we want the country restructured, it will be better for us than having Biafra,” Ezeife said.

He added, “Those who blame the young people do so with little understanding because when you are excluded from everything, hated like Buhari is doing now, then you want to go. Buhari has less than two years to go, and when he leaves, there is not going to be a Nigerian President like him. Those supporting restructuring do so in larger interest.”

He maintained that the leaders in the South-East have not rested on their oars, and have been meeting. “We are going to have a press conference to speak on the issue, appeal to the international community. The leaders in the region are crying and working very hard.

“We had a meeting of elders in Abuja, and a decision was made to have a press conference, let the world know what we are passing through. I was on Arise Television and African Independent Television (AIT). President Buhari is determined to kill Ndigbo because they didn’t vote for him. We want God to touch his heart,” he said.
