The Borno State Judicial Service Commission has removed two judicial officers as judges of Upper Area Court and Higher Sharia Court, respectively.

This was disclosed in a letter dated 2nd September, with the Ref No: JSC/GEN/VOL.1, signed by the Secretary, S.K. Jidda Esq, and sighted by TheNigerialawyer.

According to the statement Alkali Mohammed Hassan Yakub, was removed as Judge of Upper Area because he allowed himself to be used as a tool of persecution while Alkali Ibrahim El-Hassan, sat outside his territorial jurisdiction.

Two others were demoted, whereas 11 got elevated as Upper Court judges because there was nothing adverse found in their conduct, competence or integrity.

The statement states:

1. With immediate effect removed from the service of the judiciary an Upper Sharia Court Judge, Alkali Mohammed Hassan Yakub. This is as a result of the investigation of a petition to the office of the Chief Judge by the Kwayam Development Association. The Chief Judge referred the petition to the Public Complaints Committee of the judiciary which found that the judge allowed himself to be used as a tool of persecution.
2. Also removed from service is Higher Sharia Court Judge, Alkali Ibrahim El-Hassan for sitting outside his territorial jurisdiction.
3. Demoted a Senior Magistrate Grade 1 to Magistrate Grade 1 and a Higher Sharia Court Judge to Sharia Court Judge Grade 1.J
4 Elevated 11 Higher Sharia Court Judges to Upper Court Judges after unblemished service on their current position and passing re-assessment examination with scores over 60%
5. Promoted 5 High, Sharia Court Judges to Senior Sharia Court Judges
6. Promoted 2 Sharia Court Judges to the rank of Higher Sharia Court Judges.
7. On the recommendation of the re-assessment committee, transferred one Sharia Court Judge to the SULHU DOOR of the Borno Amicable Settlement Corridor (BASC) where his skills may be more appropriately utilized.
