Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, has emphasised the need for lawyers to play active roles beyond the courtroom in advancing national development.

Akangbe made the call while participating in the 2026 Law Week of the Nigerian Bar Association Ikorodu Branch, themed “From Courtroom to Community: The Lawyer’s Role in Nation Building.”

He described the theme as timely and thought-provoking, noting that it underscores the broader responsibilities of legal practitioners in promoting justice, equity, and societal development.

According to him, the role of lawyers extends into the community, where they are expected to contribute meaningfully to shaping a just and progressive society.

Akangbe also expressed satisfaction with the event, highlighting the opportunity it provided for interaction, professional networking, and capacity building among members of the Bar.

He commended the leadership of the Ikorodu Branch for its commitment to advancing the legal profession and fostering a responsive and impactful Bar.

The Law Week brought together legal practitioners and stakeholders to deliberate on the evolving role of lawyers in nation building, while strengthening professional ties within the branch.
