The Chief Judge of Benue State, Hon. Justice Maurice Ahemba Ikpambese, has directed the immediate relocation of the Local Government Election Petition Tribunals and the Appeal Tribunal to the NBA House, Abuja, citing security concerns and the ongoing strike by the Benue State Judiciary Staff Union.

In an official directive issued from the Chief Judge’s Chambers, Justice Ikpambese emphasized the need to protect tribunal members, litigants, and legal representatives while ensuring that proceedings continue within the legally prescribed timeframe.

“In view of the prevailing security threats and the ongoing judiciary staff strike, it has become necessary to take urgent measures to ensure the safety of tribunal members, litigants, and counsel, as well as to facilitate the smooth conduct of proceedings,” the statement read.

He instructed all tribunal chairmen and members across Zones A, B, and C to relocate without delay and notify all involved parties accordingly. He also assured that further directives would be issued as the situation unfolds.

This development comes amid rising concerns over judicial operations in the state, with stakeholders urging swift interventions to prevent disruptions to the election petition process.

Litigants, legal practitioners, and the general public are advised to direct all tribunal-related matters to the NBA House, Abuja, until further notice.
