Benue State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Michael Gusa, has faulted reports that the new Speaker of House of Assembly, Hon.Titus Uba, along with other principal officers were restrained by a Makurdi High Court from parading themselves as leaders. Mr.Gusa, who spoke to newsmen at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi, said some sections of the media quoted the court orders out of context and that it was only proper for him as the number one law officer of the state to put them in proper perspective. He explained that it was in view of alleged threats to peace should the assembly complex be used that the Makurdi High Court in its wisdom, ordered the new leadership of the state assembly under Hon. Titus Uba not to use the complex for sittings. According to Mr Gusa, “the court orders were explicit, straight forward and unambiguous enough for everyone to read and comprehend not the twisting of facts as some persons, in the figment of their imagination, want people to believe. “The impeached speaker of the state assembly Terkimbi Ikyange with four other former principal officers of the house were the ones facing a court injunction restraining them from parading as leaders of the assembly pending the determination of the motion before a Makurdi High Court.” The Attorney General pointed out that the new Speaker and his principal officers were protected by constitutional provisions to sit anywhere and conduct affairs of the house, stating that the legislative arm of the state government could not be shut down. He said everyone was at liberty based on provisions of the law to pursue justice to an apex court if they were not satisfied with judgement on their cases and that the state government would consider same if it found it necessary. Mr. Gusa urged Benue people to remain resolute and continue to be law abiding, giving assurance that the state would overcome the ongoing persecution.]]>
