The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress in the Ekiti State election, Dare Bejide, has rejected the outcome of the poll, alleging widespread vote-buying, intimidation and irregularities.

Bejide, while reacting to the results, said the election did not reflect the true wishes of the people of Ekiti State.

He alleged that the process was compromised by inducement of voters and intimidation in several parts of the state, insisting that the election fell short of the standard expected in a democratic contest.

According to him, the alleged monetisation of the electoral process undermined the credibility of the poll and denied voters the opportunity to freely choose their preferred candidate.

Bejide said the ADC and its supporters would review the outcome of the election and decide on the next line of action in accordance with the law.

He maintained that democracy can only thrive where elections are conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner, without intimidation, inducement or manipulation.

The ADC candidate also called on relevant electoral and security authorities to investigate the allegations of vote-buying and other irregularities raised during the election.

The development comes amid reactions trailing the conduct and outcome of the Ekiti governorship election, with political parties and observers continuing to assess the credibility of the exercise.
