Former BBNaija star and two-time Nigerian high jump champion Mike Edwards has made an entry into professional boxing, securing a victory against Jake Cornish in his debut fight.

The bout, held at the Dublin Arena, went all rounds, with Edwards emerging victorious by unanimous decision from the judges.

Edwards competed in the Misfits Boxing Cruiserweight division, an organization led by English social media personality and Nigerian-born professional boxer Olajide Olayinka Williams, popularly known as KSI.

Announcing his foray into professional boxing, Edwards made his debut on Saturday, August 31, 2024. His decision to join the cruiserweight division marks a significant shift from his previous career in track and field.

In a statement, Edwards shared his excitement about this new chapter, stating, “Breaking News: Excited to announce my entry into the world of professional boxing! Thrilled to join the Cruiserweight division roster on @MisfitsBoxing. Get ready for an electrifying debut as I step into the ring to showcase my skills and determination.”

Before transitioning to boxing, Edwards had an impressive athletic career. Initially competing as a British track and field athlete, he switched allegiance to Nigeria in August 2018. With a lifetime best of 2.25m in the high jump, he won the Nigerian national championships in 2021 and 2022.

Edwards also reached the final of the African Athletics Championships twice and narrowly missed out on a gold medal in 2022. He further demonstrated his talent as a finalist at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022.

As he embarks on this new journey, Edwards’ fans eagerly await his progress in professional boxing, where he aims to make a significant impact with his skills and determination.
