The Bauchi State Police Command has arraigned a 45-year-old operative of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Muhammad Makama, over the alleged defilement of an eight-year-old girl in Bauchi.

The command said the suspect was arrested following a report lodged at the ‘E’ Division, Yelwa, Bauchi, on July 5, 2026, by the victim’s 32-year-old mother, a resident of Dorawan Dillalai, Bauchi.

According to the police, the complainant alleged that Makama, who also resides in the same area, lured her eight-year-old daughter into his room and sexually abused her.

The Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Nafiu Habib, said in a statement that operatives immediately commenced action after receiving the report.

He said the victim was taken to the Police Clinic for medical examination and treatment.

Habib added that the suspect was also taken to the same clinic for treatment after he was reportedly assaulted by angry members of the community. He was later discharged.

The police said the case was investigated by the Gender Laboratory of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Bauchi, before the suspect was charged to court.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the alleged act and assured the public that the command would pursue justice in accordance with the law.

He also urged parents, guardians and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities involving children to the nearest police station.
