*NBA Warri Branch Resolves To Boycott Courts Over Humiliation Of Its Member
*Vows To Ventiliate Grievance Before NJC And Pursue the Issue to A Logical Conclusion

The National Executive Council of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has strongly condemned the alleged humiliation of an aged lawyer, Andrew Obido by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Warri.

The incident which according to the NBA is “disturbing”, was brought to the notice of the NEC by the Chairman of the Warri Branch, Chief Emmanuel Uti

According to the Warri branch Chairman, the aged lawyer who was not appearing before the judge was ordered to stand in Justice Abang’s court and face the wall for a certain time.

This act according to the NEC reeks of high-handedness, arbitrariness and disrespect to the Bar in entirety.

The NEC did not mince words in criticising the embarrassment occasioned on the lawyer by Justice Abang, and also resolved to take up the matter with the National Judicial Council (NJC).

The NEC vowed not to relent until the issue is looked into by the NJC and brought to a logical conclusion to save other bar members from facing similar embarrassment from the Bench.

In the interim, the NEC has resolved to boycott all cases before Justice Abang’s court till further notice.

Recall that on march 2021 Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, had deployed 53 out of the 77 judges of the court.

The affected judges are to resume at their new stations on April 12 when the deployment will take effect, according to a circular issued on March 16, 2021 by Justice Tsoho.
