A fresh crisis appears to be brewing within the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) following allegations that the party’s nomination process for the 2027 elections may have been compromised.

Sources within the party alleged that nomination forms are being reserved for aspirants loyal to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, who recently moved to the party.

According to the sources, only aspirants considered loyal to the two governors have been allowed access to the forms, while other interested contenders are allegedly being shut out of the process.

An aggrieved aspirant, who spoke on condition of anonymity, accused the party leadership of deliberate obstruction, claiming that repeated efforts to obtain the forms were ignored without any clear explanation.

The aspirant said many affected contenders had met the necessary requirements but were allegedly blocked from participating, describing the process as calculated and exclusionary.

Efforts to obtain the reaction of the APM National Chairman, Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, were unsuccessful, as calls and a text message sent to him were not answered.

The controversy comes amid ongoing political realignments within the party, following the defection of Governor Bala Mohammed to APM and reports that Governor Makinde is preparing to formally join the party and declare his presidential ambition.

Makinde is expected to make the declaration on Thursday, May 14, during a major political rally scheduled to hold at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The event, tagged “Unity Mega Rally Ibadan 2026,” is expected to serve as the official launch of Makinde’s anticipated 2027 presidential bid, as well as the unveiling of a broader political alliance involving the Peoples Democratic Party, the Allied Peoples Movement and candidates aligned with the emerging coalition being promoted by the Oyo governor and his loyalists.

Sources familiar with the development said preparations for the rally have intensified, with grassroots mobilisers, political associates and loyalists of Makinde making strategic moves ahead of the event.

Political observers believe the planned rally forms part of a wider strategy to strengthen grassroots structures across Oyo State and beyond, while consolidating Makinde’s influence within the national political space.

The development also comes against the backdrop of unresolved internal disputes within the PDP, which have reportedly forced some loyalists and political actors to explore alternative political platforms and alliances ahead of 2027.

The May 14 rally is expected to attract political stakeholders, youth groups, community leaders, traditional supporters and allies from across the country, particularly those aligned with Makinde’s leadership style and political vision.

Although Makinde has yet to make an official public declaration on his 2027 presidential ambition, support groups and political associates have continued to mount pressure on him to join the race.
