The Nigerian Army has successfully demolished a large illegal refinery in Delta State, according to Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations.

He also mentioned that soldiers from the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army took down eight operational ovens utilized for the unlawful processing of stolen crude oil.

Furthermore, the troops incapacitated 14 storage reservoirs that contained an estimated 200,000 liters of stolen crude oil and 90,000 liters of locally refined diesel.

Brig. Gen. Nwachukwu revealed that an investigation has been initiated to track down the individuals responsible for the illegal activities, who have fled the scene upon observing the soldiers’ approach. He urged the public to promptly report any suspicious activities to the security agencies to bolster ongoing efforts to curb economic sabotage in the country.

The Director’s statement was shared on the Nigerian Army’s official channel on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday. He elaborated that the operation took place on August 23, 2023, as part of anti-oil theft endeavors. The targeted site was an illegal oil refinery situated around Ogbokoko and Atu areas in the Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The successful operation reflects the Army’s commitment to eradicating illegal refining activities and protecting Nigeria’s economic interests.
