Popular Nigerian preacher, Johnson Suleman, has accused a police officer of orchestrating last year’s fatal attack on his convoy in Edo State.

In a video broadcast, Apostle Suleman of Omega Fire Ministries claimed an unnamed officer posted online implicating himself in deploying the team ambushed during the attack which left 7 people dead.

The cleric said the officer later apologized privately but he rejected it and asked for a public apology. Suleman alleged the officer had planned the attack by agreeing to drive him while gunmen ambushed them.

He said God intervened and led him to drive himself, contrary to plans. The officer was the first casualty when the attack happened, Suleman noted.

The police spokesperson in Edo State declined to comment on the allegations, saying the unnamed officer has not been identified.

Last October, gunmen ambushed Suleman’s convoy on his return from Tanzania, killing 3 police escorts and 4 others. He described it as an assassination attempt.

The allegations come amidst growing concerns over police complicity in high-profile crimes in Nigeria. The police authorities are yet to publicly react to the cleric’s claims.
