Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, businessman and father of music star Davido, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress spent about ₦60 billion on election day in an attempt to influence voters in the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election, insisting that his younger brother, Governor Ademola Adeleke, prevailed not because his camp outspent the opposition but because of prayer and divine intervention.

Adedeji Adeleke, who is the elder brother of the Osun governor, made the claims while speaking at a ceremony celebrating Adeleke’s victory in the governorship election.
In a video which subsequently circulated on social media, the businessman said the scale of alleged spending by the opposition on election day caused him serious concern, with reports reaching him that votes were being bought for as much as ₦50,000 in some locations.
According to him, the opposition allegedly spent about ₦60 billion during the election.
“On election, they did not spend any money. They spent 60 billion as we heard. Some places they bought votes for as high as 50,000 Naira for one single vote,” he said.
The allegation concerning the amount allegedly spent by the APC has not been independently established and represents Adeleke’s account of what he said he heard during the election.
Adedeji maintained that his brother’s victory was not the result of superior financial strength or an attempt to match the opposition naira-for-naira.
According to him, the family relied principally on prayer.
He recalled that when information reached him about the amount of money allegedly being deployed on election day, he withdrew to his room and prayed that voters would accept whatever money politicians offered them but still vote according to their preference.

“On the day of the election, when I heard the kind of money they were spending, I went back to my little corner in my room and I knelt down and I prayed to God,” he said.
“I said, God Almighty, please let people collect their money, but let them still vote for Ademola Adeleke.”
Adedeji said his prayers for his brother’s electoral success did not begin on election day, explaining that he had maintained a regular spiritual routine in the period leading to the poll.
He said he repeatedly studied and prayed with passages from the Bible, particularly Isaiah 41, which he described as an important part of his daily prayers and testimony.
The businessman insisted that the election result should therefore not be interpreted as evidence that the Adeleke family deployed greater financial resources than its opponents.
According to him, the victory demonstrated what he regarded as the efficacy of prayer despite the financial strength associated with the family.
His remarks followed Governor Adeleke’s victory over his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the APC.
Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, was declared winner after polling 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji secured 444,815 votes.
Adedeji’s comments have since generated reactions online, particularly his allegation that about ₦60 billion was spent by the opposition and that some voters were allegedly offered up to ₦50,000 each.
The claims also came against the backdrop of reports and concerns about vote buying during the election, although the specific figures cited by Adeleke have not been independently verified.
Meanwhile, Governor Ademola Adeleke has separately spoken about the enormous influence his elder brother has had on his life, describing Adedeji as a father figure and trusted adviser.
Speaking during an interview on Sunday Politics, the governor said the relationship became even more important following the death of their father.
“I miss my dad big time. But when I see him, I see my dad. So, he is like a father figure to me,” Adeleke said.
The governor said he listens extensively to his elder brother because of the wisdom and experience he has acquired through years of business and personal life.
“He is a father figure. How much do I listen to him? A lot, because God has really blessed him with wisdom,” he said.
Adeleke recalled that there were occasions in the past when his brother advised him against pursuing particular business ventures but he ignored the warnings because he felt Adedeji was attempting to control his decisions.
“I would say, ‘Can we do this business?’ He would say, ‘Let me take a look at it.’ And he would tell me, ‘This one is not going to work.’ I would say, ‘Oh, you want to control me? What’s going on here?’ I would go ahead and do it, and it would not work,” the governor recalled.
According to him, repeated experiences of seeing his brother’s assessments eventually prove correct made him reconsider his approach.
“I was a bit stubborn. So, after some time, I said, ‘Wait a minute. I think I need to listen to my big brother,’” he said.
Adeleke said he subsequently began studying his brother’s approach to business and decision-making and came to regard him as one of his most trusted advisers.
“I started studying him. And as I got older, I would call him my adviser without a portfolio,” he added.
Adedeji’s latest comments following the governorship election therefore highlight both his political support for his younger brother and the close personal relationship between them, with the businessman attributing Adeleke’s electoral victory to prayer despite what he alleged was massive financial deployment by the opposition.
