The popular Kannywood musician and strong critic of the Kano state governor, Nazir Ahmad, popularly known as Sarkin Waka who was arrested yesterday by the police, has been released on bail by a court in Kano.
The bail condition says he must provide guarantors including the Village Head of his home town, two civil servants and the sum of N500,000, a report on BBC Hausa stated.
Earlier, Daily Trust reported that the singer was arrested allegedly on the order of the Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, through the Kano Censorship Board.
In the said albums Gidan Sarauta and Sai Hakuri, the crowned royal court singer was said to have openly criticized the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.
The spokesman, Kano state police command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the arrest, saying that the singer was arrested on the orders of the court.
He said, “The court ordered his arrest and we complied with the order and we have already handed him over to the court.”
