Anambra State Commissioner for Homeland Affairs, Chief Chikodi Anarah, has officially resigned from his position, making him the second commissioner to exit Governor Charles Soludo’s cabinet following the departure of the former Commissioner for Information, Sir Paul Nwosu.

While no official reason has been given for Anarah’s resignation, sources suggest it may be linked to the lingering security challenges in the state, despite the establishment of two security initiatives—‘Agunechemba’ and ‘Operation Udo Ga Achi.’ These outfits have made strides in tackling insecurity, particularly by cracking down on native doctors alleged to be involved in criminal activities. However, incidents of kidnapping and armed robbery have persisted.

A source within the Government House, who spoke to The Nation, revealed that Anarah’s resignation was a “soft landing” orchestrated by Governor Soludo. According to the source, the commissioner’s role had become redundant following the appointment of Prince Ken Emeakayi as Special Adviser on Community Security.

“Technically, Anarah was sacked the moment Emeakayi was appointed,” the source stated. “During the last Executive Council meeting, he was asked to tender his resignation. Governor Soludo prefers to allow officials to step down voluntarily rather than openly dismiss them.”

The source further noted that Emeakayi has been working behind the scenes and has recorded significant success in security operations. Given his effectiveness, the government saw no need to retain Anarah in a similar capacity.
