A 38-year-old woman, Amarachukwu Nzekwe, has been arrested for allegedly inflicting injury on her 13-year-old nephew with hot laundry iron in Anambra State.

The incident, which went viral on social media, was brought to the attention of the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo.

The suspect, a nurse from Ezinifite in Aguata Local Government Area accused the victim of stealing from her.

She reportedly locked him up at home without proper medication attention after the abuse.

“I disciplined him after he stole from me,” she said.

Speaking shortly after rescuing the victim, the Commissioner said the suspect had been handed over to the police for further investigations.

She warned intending offenders to desist or face the law, insisting that such a dastardly act would not be tolerated in the state.

She assured that justice would be served.

“It is important to note that the culprit is without her own child, the reason her little nephew was kept under her care,” she added.
