The Nasarawa State Judicial Service Commission has issued queries to five serving judicial officers over allegations of professional misconduct leveled against them by a legal practitioner, Maxwell Opara Esq.

The officers given 24 hours to respond to the allegations include Hon. Emmanuel Jatua Agbi, Hon. Victor Vincent Manga, Gloria Ishaya, and Aliyu A. Labaran – all of the state’s High Court of Justice.
In separate query letters signed by the Commission’s Secretary Yahaya Yakubu Shafa, the officers were accused of granting arbitral court orders outside their jurisdiction, following petitions to that effect by Barrister Opara.
The officers were directed to submit their responses on or before December 18, 2023 for review by the Chief Judge and Chairman of the Judicial Service Commission.
According to Bar Opara’s petition, the accused judges allegedly engaged in judicial misconduct by issuing controversial rulings that exceeded their powers.
The query letters stressed that the officers must explain themselves within 24 hours or face disciplinary action for gross misconduct as public servants and judicial officials.
As at press time, the affected judges had not responded to the weighty allegations of professional impropriety leveled against them by the Commission. The unfolding case is seen as a test of the judiciary’s capacity to handle internal grievances and check abuse of office within its ranks.
TheNigerialawyer recalls that Maxwell Opara, levied serious accusations against Access Bank Plc, implicating two Magistrates and police officers in an alleged scheme of fraudulent withdrawal of 20 million Naira from his client’s account. In response to these allegations, the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Nasarawa State, challenged Opara to disclose the names of the judicial officers involved.
