The Akwa Ibom State Judiciary has announced that all courts in the state will be closed from Tuesday, October 29th through Thursday, October 31st, 2024.
In a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Uyo Branch, Elder Ini Ekpo, the Head of Administration for the Akwa Ibom State Judiciary, stated that the closure is to allow all Judges, Magistrates, Dispute Resolution Officers (DROs), Chairmen, Registrars and staff of District Courts to participate in the review of the new High Court, Multi-Door Court, and Customary Court Civil Procedure Rules.
The three-day review session aims to familiarize the judiciary staff with the new procedural rules being implemented across the various courts in Akwa Ibom State. The updated rules are expected to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the state’s judicial system.
During this period, all court proceedings will be suspended. Regular court operations are set to resume on Friday, November 1st, 2024.
The Akwa Ibom State Judiciary has advised all legal practitioners, litigants, and the general public to take note of these dates and plan accordingly. Urgent matters that arise during the closure will be attended to only on an emergency basis.
The review and implementation of the new Civil Procedure Rules demonstrate the Akwa Ibom State Judiciary’s commitment to continuously improving the administration of justice and ensuring fair, timely adjudication of cases for the people of the state.
