Social activist Aisha Yesufu has unveiled a different strategy for supporting Peter Obi in the 2027 general election, saying she will devote more attention to organising supporters at polling units and protecting votes rather than accompanying Obi on extensive campaign tours across the country.

Yesufu, who played a prominent role in Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign, said lessons from the last general election had convinced her that mobilisation alone was insufficient and that greater attention must be paid to what happens at polling units after voters cast their ballots.
Speaking in a video, Yesufu said her highly visible involvement in the 2023 campaign was partly aimed at challenging perceptions that Obi represented only a particular ethnic or religious constituency.
According to her, that objective was substantially achieved as Obi’s campaign attracted support from Nigerians across different backgrounds.
She said the task ahead of 2027 would therefore require a different approach, with supporters organising themselves before election day and developing structures capable of monitoring voting, recording of results and the subsequent collation process.
“Yes, I will still campaign with Peter Obi when necessary, but you might not see me travelling around with him as much as possible,” she said.
Yesufu explained that she intends to concentrate on building networks of supporters around polling units and ensuring that voters understand the electoral process beyond merely casting their ballots.
She urged supporters to familiarise themselves with how votes are recorded at polling units and how results move through the different stages of collation.
“Your vote that you voted, it must be entered. You must see it manually entered. Follow it. Escort your vote from your polling unit to the ward collation centre,” she said.
The activist warned supporters against leaving polling units without paying attention to the recording of results, stressing the need for vigilance against errors or possible manipulation during the electoral process.
According to her, the objective is to establish a grassroots network capable of monitoring results from polling units through the collation process instead of concentrating predominantly on rallies and nationwide campaign appearances.
Yesufu said several young Nigerians were already preparing to contribute to the 2027 effort through voter mobilisation, photography, content creation, polling-unit organisation and other activities.
“There are so many other things that I am doing. I am going to be doing so you might not get out as much as possible to ensure that I’m doing this,” she said.
Her latest position marks a shift from the role she played during the 2023 presidential election, when she was frequently seen at Obi’s rallies and campaign engagements across the country.
Yesufu said that while she would continue to appear with Obi where necessary, her priority for 2027 would be ensuring that supporters are properly organised at the grassroots and equipped to monitor their votes throughout the election process.
Obi finished third in the 2023 presidential election behind Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar after a campaign that attracted significant support, particularly among younger voters.
