Mr. T.D. Sorkaa, Esq, a co-opted NEC Member of the NBA, has reacted to a letter written by the Middle Belt Lawyers Forum (MBLF), dated 7th July, 2018 and signed by Emmanuel Akowe Haruna, Esq., Chairman, adopting some candidates for the NBA forthcoming election. In a press statement released on the 10th day of July 2018, Mr. T.D. Sorkaa, Esq has within mincing words, denied the letter addressing him as the Forum’s Publicity Secretary. According to him, he is not a member of the Forum and therefore, cannot, even occupy the post of Publicity Secretary of the Forum. ”I woke up to my amazement to see my name as Publicity Secretary of Middle Belt Lawyers Forum (MBLF) on a letterhead dated 7th July 2018 and signed by Emmanuel Akowe Haruna, Esq., Chairman, Middle Belt Lawyers Forum on adoption of candidates for the forthcoming national elections of NBA. ”I wish to state that am not a member of MBLF nor was I elected nor appointed as Publicity Secretary of MBLF. I challenge anyone to show anywhere my name is amongst members of MBLF. ”Moreover, I state that the purported adoption is void in law since I have never attended any meeting of MBLF from inception till date,” he said. He further stated that he won’t hesitate to take the leaders of MBLF to court if they don’t retract the illegal adoption with his name on their letterhead. In another development, some members of the Forum are claiming that the wordings of the said letter are not actually a true reflection of what really transpired at the forum’s meeting. According to one Alewo Adah, of NBA Lokoja branch, the move by some individuals to adopt EBF Candidates was outrightly rejected. ”I was personally present in the said middle belt lawyers forum’s meeting from the beginning to the end. We unanimously rejected the move by some individuals to adopt EBF candidates.” Another comment reads: This is not true. I was at the meeting when both letters from the Eastern Bar Forum and the Midwest Bar Forum was read out. J.S Okutepa SAN moved for its adoption which was seconded. But a counter motion was moved by R.S John (former chairman of kabba branch) which was also seconded. We were at the verge of puting same to vote when J.S Okutepa withdrew his motion. It was finally agreed that the two fora be sent a reply acknowledging reciept of same and informing them that we also adopted candidate for the office of welfare secretary and treasurer. The entire public should ignore the purported aspect of this letter which states that the middle belt bar forum has adopted the eastern bar forum adoption, as same is only being masterminded by some of its focusless, visionless, selfish and ignorant leaders. TheNigerialawyer (TNL) recalls that a letter was alleged to have been written by the Middle Belt Lawyers Forum, with Mr. T.D. Sorkaa, Esq as publicly Secretary, adopting some candidates adopted by the Eastern Bar Forum with an exception of two.
