Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has officially emerged as the Accord Party’s governorship candidate for the August 8, 2026 election, less than 24 hours after announcing his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party.

Adeleke, who was the sole aspirant in the primary held on Wednesday in Osogbo, polled 145 out of 150 valid votes cast by delegates drawn from all 30 local government areas of the state. Five votes were voided.

Announcing the results, Secretary of the Electoral Committee, Abdulazeez Salaudeen, said the process was duly witnessed by INEC observers and representatives of the aspirant.

“The electoral committee has delivered on its mandate. After voting and counting, I declare Senator Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke as the winner of the primary,” Salaudeen declared.

Adeleke, his deputy Kola Adewusi, and several political appointees were present at the venue. The exercise took place under heavy security, with armed police officers and operatives of the Department of State Services providing coverage. Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission also monitored the primary.

The Accord Party’s national chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, led the party’s leadership to the event.

Notably absent, however, were top Osun PDP figures including the state chairman, Sunday Bisi; Speaker of the House of Assembly, Wale Egbedun; state lawmakers; and National Assembly members elected on the PDP platform.

Adeleke formally confirmed his defection to the Accord Party on Tuesday, saying he joined the party on November 6 after weeks of wide consultations.

“I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago as a platform to seek re-election in 2026,” he said, explaining that the party’s philosophy of welfarism aligns with his governance priorities.

He pledged to continue prioritizing citizens’ welfare and deepening democratic dividends across the state as he seeks a second term in office.
