Pelumi Olajengbesi, a lawyer and campaign spokesman for Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid, has threatened to institute a ₦10 billion defamation suit against the lawmaker representing Osun East Senatorial District, Senator Francis Fadahunsi, over statements allegedly linking him to cult groups.

In a letter dated August 12, 2026, and addressed to Fadahunsi by Olajengbesi’s lawyer, Hammed Lasisi, Esq., the campaign spokesman accused the senator of making statements he described as defamatory and injurious to his reputation during television interviews aired on Viable TV on July 2, 2026, and Channels Television’s Politics Today on August 11, 2026.

Olajengbesi demanded the immediate retraction of the statements and an unequivocal public apology within 24 hours, failing which he said legal proceedings would be commenced against the senator.

According to the letter, Fadahunsi allegedly questioned Olajengbesi’s origin during the July 2 interview and accused him of using “thugs, Eiye and Aye.”

The letter stated that the remarks portrayed Olajengbesi as someone who sponsors, associates with or deploys members of the Eiye and Aye cult groups for political activities.

It further alleged that during his appearance on Channels Television on August 11, Fadahunsi made another statement concerning the late Ajayi Aderogba, also known as Rogba, in which he allegedly claimed that Rogba was an Eiye member sponsored by Olajengbesi to terrorise people in the senator’s territory.

Olajengbesi, through his lawyer, denied the allegations, describing them as false, malicious and gravely damaging to his personal, professional and political reputation.

The letter maintained that an allegation of sponsoring cultists or persons involved in acts of terror imputes criminal conduct and is incompatible with Olajengbesi’s standing as a legal practitioner, public figure and political actor.

Olajengbesi said he had never sponsored, financed, supported or provided resources to any cult group or its members for criminal, political or other unlawful activities.

He also denied authorising any person to terrorise, intimidate or attack members of the public on his behalf.

The campaign spokesman consequently demanded that Fadahunsi retract the alleged statements through the same media and platforms on which they were published or disseminated and issue an unequivocal and unreserved public apology through appropriate national and social media platforms.

His lawyer warned that should the senator fail to comply within 24 hours, Olajengbesi would approach the court seeking ₦10 billion in general and aggravated damages for alleged defamation and injurious falsehood.
