Prominent lawyer Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa SAN has called on the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) to immediately embark on a total nationwide strike in response to the attack on NLC President, Joe Ajaero.

In a statement on Monday, Adegboruwa said prolonged deliberations are unnecessary following last week’s “unprovoked terror and humiliation” of the labour leader in Imo State. He stated that the Tinubu administration has shown disregard for labour rights while the Imo government insulted unions by its actions.
The senior advocate condemned the brutalization of Ajaero who was leading a lawful protest before being manhandled by security agents directed by the state government. He said the reaction from labour must be swift, decisive and commensurate to the terror unleashed on its president.
Adegboruwa insisted that anything short of an indefinite total strike and showdown would mean the unions have failed their members following this existential challenge. He urged labour not to debate the matter endlessly but immediately commence crippling industrial action nationwide.
The lawyer warned that the very foundation of the unions is under threat by the highhandedness of state authorities. He called on NLC and TUC to firmly resist the oppressive tendencies of the government and its allies with all available means.
Adegboruwa advised that labour must not accept empty promises again but take concrete action to defend its integrity and interests of Nigerian workers.
