The Ika Lawyers Association has officially announced its Inaugural Global Conference, set to hold on October 16 and 17, 2025, at the Viana Event Centre, Boji Boji Owa, Delta State.
The historic event will bring together Ika sons and daughters from around the world including legal practitioners, jurists, academicians, and corporate legal professionals under a single platform to celebrate and advance their shared cultural heritage through the law.
Themed “The Ika People of Nigeria: Advancing and Preserving Cultural Heritage Through the Instrumentality of the Law,” the conference aims to provide a unified voice and platform to explore legal strategies for cultural preservation and socio-economic advancement within Ika communities and beyond.
The keynote address will be delivered by Emeritus Professor Jim Unah of the University of Lagos, who also serves as President of the Philosophers Association of Nigeria. A host of prominent jurists, legal scholars, and corporate legal leaders will participate in shaping discussions that could define the future of the Ika people.
Traditional rulers of Ika extraction will also play a key role, symbolising the integration of legal expertise with cultural leadership.
Speaking at a media briefing alongside the Local Organising Committee, the Pro-Term President of the Ika Lawyers Association, Clement Osuya FCIArb (UK), said:
“This conference marks a new dawn for Ika legal minds and culture bearers. The programs are robust, intellectually engaging, and culturally enriching. We are confident that it will leave a memorable impact on all participants and inspire future generations to champion our heritage with pride and legal acumen.”
The Ika Lawyers Association encourages all stakeholders legal professionals, cultural custodians, and members of the public to participate in this groundbreaking initiative.
