The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel has ordered Akwa Savings and Loans Limited to publish the names of all her debtors because of the dismal and poor performances of Distinguished Senator Emmanuel Ibok Essien at the Akwa Ibom State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Uyo.

Sen. Ibok Essien, who testified for Udom Emmanuel as a Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) witness, admitted under oath that the much talked about ‘free, fair and credible” election in the state was not witnessed by him as he was not in all polling units in the state during the election. He averred that he only heard about the fairness of that election on radio and television commentaries.
Sen. Essien, further admitted during cross-examination by Obong Nsima Ekere and All Progressives Congress (APC) lead counsel, J.S. Okutepa, SAN that Elder Okon Patrick Albert, erstwhile Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Akwa Ibom State Chapter who earlier testified and denied involvement and Chairmanship position of Udom Emmanuel’s Divine Mandate Campaign Organization, was indeed the Chairman of Udom Emmanuel’s media committee during the election.
Essien, who collected allegedly millions of naira from the Governor to mobilize voters on the day of the gubernatorial election absconded and lied on oath that he voted during the election, only to be discovered in court that he did not only vote but his name was not on the voters register in his unit and no accreditation took place in the whole of Ikot Ekpene LGA.
Apparently irked by Ibok Essien’s betrayal, the Governor ordered the management of Akwa Savings and Loans Ltd to published the name of Senator Emmanuel Ibok Essien alongside other debtors of the indigenous bank.
In total compliance with the order, the management of the company, released an official list of delinquent debtors and Sen. Ibok Essien’s name featured prominently with N152,436,185.00 (One hundred fifty-two million, four hundred thirty-six thousand, one hundred and eighty-five thousand naira) as money he owed the indigenous savings and loans company which has gone under.
“Pursuant to and in compliance with the circular issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria in April 2015, Akwa Savings and Loans Limited hereby publishes the list of fifty-six (56) top delinquent debtors.
This has become necessary as all avenues provided by the Bank to propose acceptable terms of resolution have failed.
Nevertheless, the Bank is still open to amicable resolution of these debts within a reasonable timeframe, failing which it shall continue to exercise all powers, as provided by the law, to recover, which may include the sale of collateral used to secure these facilities.” The terse statement read.
Our source who craved anonymity said, “look, Central Bank of Nigeria gave Akwa Savings and Loans Ltd the order for the publication of names of debtors since 2015; but for the fact that Sen. Ibok Essien and other PDP members were on the list, the Governor prevailed upon the bank’s management not to published the list.”
“The list was ordered to be published in 2019. Remember, he admitted during cross examination that as a seasoned politician who contested and participated in several elections in the state, that no valid election can said to be conducted without proper accreditation. That statement alone indicted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Resident Electoral Commissioner in the State, Mr. Mike Igini and Gov. Udom Emmanuel. That was when his sin with the state government was remembered.”
