Gold while speaking with reporters yesterday said NABRO will help reduce budget-related controversies during the consideration of the 2018 estimates. The bill which was sponsored in the Green Chamber by Golu and some members of his committee, gives NABRO the powers to critically examine annual budgets with a view to streamlining the fiscal documents in an incisive and non-partisan manner. “The bill establishing NABRO has been transmitted to President Muhammadu Buhari for his assent ahead of the 2018 budget presentation before a joint session of the National Assembly. “When fully established, NABRO will make the budget consideration process less cumbersome and fast,” the lawmaker said. According to him, the Executive would collaborate with the Legislature to make annual budgets to be considered within short time through NABRO. Budget related issues would be a thing of the past when eventually NABRO comes into being, Golu said. The Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) indicates that the Federal Government is proposing N8.6 trillion for 2018, about 15. Percent higher than that of last year, which was N7.4trn.
