Osuman also celebrated his 70th birthday on the same day, in an event attended by a former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mohammed Uwais (retd.), and other dignitaries. Gowon lamented that Nigeria had long waited for true justice, adding that Nigerians were “struck down but not destroyed.” The former head of state, who was represented by his younger brother, Dr. Dauda Gowon, said, “Legal practitioners, administer true justice. Show mercy so that Nigerians will know that the God of justice lives here too. Nigerians are waiting because they have such a hope that you are competent and will give us justice. Nigerians are hard pressed on every side but not crushed, perplexed but not in despair, struck down but not destroyed. “A stance against injustice ensures people’s confidence. It makes us know that wrong will not be discountenanced, and we will sleep, knowing that Nigeria has a level-playing ground when it comes to justice for all.” The author of the book, Dr. Grace Osuman, said her motivation came from her husband’s (Mamman) devotion to the law practice. “I watch him work very hard.
