Prof. Oladoyin Awoyale, PhD, SAN, and Tunde Ahmed Adejumo, Esq., have launched a new book titled Nigeria’s Election Cases: Timelines and Practical Legal Steps for Lawyers, a practical guide designed to simplify the legal timelines governing election-related cases in Nigeria.

The book provides a clear and accessible guide to understanding election timelines, drawing from the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as altered, the Electoral Act, 2026, and other relevant laws.

It is written for lawyers, candidates, politicians, electoral officers, law students and other stakeholders who require a practical understanding of how election timelines operate in real cases.

The publication explains important legal deadlines in a straightforward manner, supported by relevant case law and easy-to-follow timelines. It covers both pre-election matters and election petitions, making it a useful reference for legal practitioners, political aspirants, judicial officers, electoral officials and participants in the electoral process.

According to the authors, the book seeks to make complex legal rules easier to understand and help readers avoid costly procedural mistakes when filing, defending or handling election-related cases.

They also noted that statutory timelines should not be seen merely as strict legal barriers, but as carefully structured procedures designed to ensure fairness, certainty and the effective administration of electoral justice.

The authors expressed hope that the publication would serve as a dependable reference for all who participate in Nigeria’s electoral process and contribute meaningfully to the continued development of electoral jurisprudence and the fair resolution of election disputes.

Commending the authors, the Chief Justice of Nigeria described the book as a timely contribution to Nigeria’s legal and electoral system.

“I commend the authors, Prof. Oladoyin Awoyale, PhD, SAN, and Tunde Ahmed Adejumo, Esq., for their industry, scholarship, and dedication in producing a resource that responds to a real and continuing need within Nigeria’s legal community,” the CJN stated.

The CJN added that the work reflects a commitment to deepening electoral jurisprudence and supporting the institutional capacity of the judiciary and the Bar in carrying out their constitutional responsibilities.

Her Lordship expressed hope that the book would serve as a dependable companion for practitioners and adjudicators, promote greater procedural awareness and contribute to the continued development of principled and efficient electoral justice in Nigeria.

The book is recommended for legal practitioners, judges, electoral officials, politicians, law students and members of the public interested in understanding Nigeria’s election dispute process.
