The Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC) Nigeria has announced a special Women and Youth Session as part of its 2026 International Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Conference and Induction Ceremony, bringing together legal professionals, international development experts, women leaders and young people to discuss Nigeria’s democratic future and the management of socio-political conflicts.

The session, scheduled for Wednesday, December 2, 2026, at the Abuja Trade and Convention Centre, will hold from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. West African Time.

With the sub-theme, “Nigeria’s Democratic Future: Leveraging the Strength of Women and Youth in Reimagining Democracy and Managing Socio-Political Conflicts,” the event will provide a platform for discussions on democratic participation, inclusive leadership, conflict management and the contributions of women and young people to national development.

According to the organisers, the session is designed to encourage women and young people to participate actively in conversations about Nigeria’s democratic institutions, leadership challenges and peaceful resolution of socio-political disagreements.

Professor Ozonnia Ojielo, FICMC, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Ethiopia, will participate as the Key Guest Panellist.

Other guest panellists include Her Worship, Sa’adatu Hamma, MICMC, MICArb, Chief Magistrate Grade I in the Kano State Judiciary; Mrs. Isimeme Whyte, Founder and Group Managing Director of Genius Hub Groups; and Margaret Nwagbo, FICMC, a Past Vice President of ICMC.

The discussions will be moderated by Nurah Jimoh-Sanni, Lead of the Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI), and Grace Orahachi Ehusani, Head of Chambers and Practice Manager at Greenfield Chambers.

The event will also feature the presence of the President of ICMC, Godwin Omoaka, SAN, FICMC; the Incoming President, Dr. Chukwuemeka B. Eze, FICMC; the Registrar, Babatunde Oyefeso, FICMC; and the Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, Ambassador Victor A. A. A. Ojaide, FICMC.

The Women and Youth Session forms part of the broader 2026 ICMC International ADR Conference and Induction Ceremony, which the organisers describe as the largest ADR conference on the African continent.

The organisers explained that the special session would provide an opportunity to explore how women and young people can contribute to reimagining democratic governance, strengthening inclusive decision-making and addressing socio-political conflicts through dialogue and peaceful engagement.

The programme will also examine the importance of expanding opportunities for women and youth participation in governance and leadership, particularly in a democratic environment where competing political interests and social tensions require effective mechanisms for engagement and conflict resolution.

ICMC emphasised that attendance at the session is free but strictly by invitation.

Participation is open to women of all ages and young people aged 35 years and below.

Interested participants are required to register in advance through the designated registration platform.

The organisers encouraged members and other stakeholders to share the opportunity with eligible women and young people within their professional and social networks.

Registration can be completed through https://forms.gle/eWmuPrNgXE9gVSsbA.

The session is expected to bring together participants from the legal profession, judiciary, civil society, development sector and other areas of public engagement to discuss practical approaches to strengthening democratic participation and managing conflicts in Nigeria.
