The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned Raymond Charles Yafetus, Auwal Ibrahim and Babangida Yahaya Ibrahim before the Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations that they impersonated Nigerian blogger and influencer Adekunle Tunde Olaoluwa, popularly known as Tunde Ednut, and obtained more than ₦18.2 million from unsuspecting members of the public.

The defendants were arraigned on Thursday, October 15, 2026, before Justice S. O. Ibrahim on a three-count charge bordering on cybercrime, conspiracy to commit fraud, impersonation and obtaining money by false pretence.

According to the EFCC, the alleged fraudulent transactions took place between April and June 2026 in Abuja.

The commission alleged that the defendants assumed Tunde Ednut’s identity and, while acting under the purported identity, opened bank accounts with different financial institutions in Nigeria through which they allegedly received a total of ₦18,264,700 from members of the public.

One of the counts reads: “That you Raymond Charles Yafetus, Auwal Ibrahim and Babangida Yahaya Ibrahim (now at large) between April and June 2026 at Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court with the intent to defraud, did fraudulently impersonate one Adekunle Tunde Olaoluwa, popularly known as Tunde-Ednut and in that assumed character opened bank account in different banks in Nigeria and you obtained a total sum of N18,264,700 (Eighteen Million, Two Hundred and Sixty Four Thousand, Seven Hundred Naira) from unsuspecting members of the public.”

The EFCC said the alleged offence is contrary to Section 22(2)(b)(ii) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015 and punishable under the relevant provisions of the same law.

The defendants pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.

Following their pleas, prosecution counsel Elizabeth Alabi asked the court to fix a date for trial and remand the defendants at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the determination of the case.

Justice Ibrahim subsequently ordered their remand at the Kuje Correctional Centre and adjourned the matter until November 17, 2026, for further proceedings.

There is, however, an apparent inconsistency in the EFCC statement: while it said Yafetus, Auwal Ibrahim and Babangida Yahaya Ibrahim were arraigned, the reproduced second count described Babangida Yahaya Ibrahim as “now at large.”
