The Young Lawyers Forum (YLF) of the Nigerian Bar Association, Abuja Branch, is partnering with the Lawyers Super League to mark World Mental Health Day with an event combining mental health awareness with sport.

The event holds on Saturday, 10 October 2026, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Sunrise Sport Centre, Asokoro, Abuja.

“In a profession where deadlines, demanding workloads, and the constant pressure to deliver can take their toll, it is easy to forget that lawyers, too, need time to pause, recharge, and look after their mental well-being,” the Forum said in a statement.

It said the collaboration aims to create an opportunity for lawyers to discuss mental health openly, to challenge the stigma surrounding mental health challenges, and to encourage one another to prioritise their well-being.

“Through shared experiences, conversations, and sporting activities, participants will have the opportunity to connect beyond the courtroom and strengthen the bonds within the legal community,” the Forum said.

It added that promoting mental well-being “does not always have to mean sitting through a serious conversation,” and that there would be room for “fun, teamwork, and a little friendly competition on the pitch.”

The Forum summarised its message in a single line: “Strong lawyers need strong minds, and taking care of ourselves is an essential part of building a sustainable legal career.”

“After all, you cannot pour from an empty briefcase,” it added.

It invited young lawyers and members of the legal community to take part, saying: “This World Mental Health Day, let us check in on one another, break the stigma, and make room for both professional excellence and personal well-being.”

“Put your briefs down, lace up your boots, and join us on the pitch,” the statement concluded.

The announcement was issued by the Young Lawyers Forum, Abuja Branch, Executive Council 2026–2028.
