The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in bye-elections conducted in Kano and Gombe states and one of the two constituencies contested in Bauchi State, while the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) won the second Bauchi State Assembly seat.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted the legislative bye-elections on Saturday, September 19, 2026, to fill vacant seats across the affected constituencies. INEC’s schedule listed polls for the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency, the Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies in Bauchi, the Udu State Constituency in Delta and the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano.
In Kano State, APC candidate Hussaini Yusuf Datti was declared winner of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa State Constituency bye-election after polling 22,890 votes.
The Peoples Redemption Party came second with 270 votes, while other parties trailed. Published reports differ on the PDP figure, with some reporting 108 votes and others 180; the APC candidate’s winning tally of 22,890 is consistent across the reports reviewed.
The election was held to fill the State House of Assembly seat vacated after former occupant Shuaibu Rabiu Nagoggo, popularly known as Abba Gano, moved to the House of Representatives following a separate bye-election triggered by the death of federal lawmaker Muhammad Hassan.
In Bauchi State, the two State Assembly contests produced victories for different parties.
APC candidate Yakubu Ali won the Disina State Constituency bye-election after polling 5,846 votes. His closest challenger from the APM secured 5,225 votes, while the Peoples Redemption Party polled 3,701 votes.
The APM, however, took the Sakwa State Constituency seat in Zaki Local Government Area.
Its candidate, Adamu Yakubu, was declared winner after scoring 8,515 votes, defeating the APC candidate, who polled 3,771 votes. The PDP received 2,076 votes, while the PRP recorded 727 votes.
The result means Bauchi’s two bye-elections were split between the APC and APM, rather than being swept by a single party.
In Gombe State, APC candidate Kallamu Usman MaiJama’a won the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency bye-election with 41,121 votes.
The Labour Party candidate polled 3,553 votes, while the APM recorded 872 votes, according to the reported final results.
The Gombe election was conducted following the death of the former member representing the constituency, Yaya Bauchi Tongo, in June 2026. INEC had scheduled voting across 903 polling units and 31 registration areas in Gombe, Kwami and Funakaye local government areas.
The results therefore give the APC victories in Kano’s Dawakin Kudu/Warawa State Constituency, Bauchi’s Disina State Constituency and Gombe’s Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency, while the APM secured Bauchi’s Sakwa State Constituency.
