French President Emmanuel Macron has hosted President Bola Tinubu to a private dinner at the Élysée Palace in Paris, in another high-level engagement between Nigeria and France as both countries seek to deepen bilateral cooperation.

The dinner took place on Thursday night and was disclosed on Friday by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who shared photographs from the meeting. The images showed Tinubu with Macron and France’s First Lady, Brigitte Macron, at the presidential palace.
“French President Emmanuel Macron received President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a private dinner Thursday night at the Élysée Palace, reflecting the enduring relationship between Nigeria and France and their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation,” Onanuga said.
Details of the discussions between the two presidents were not publicly disclosed.
The meeting came as Tinubu approached the end of a three-week European vacation which the Presidency said formed part of his annual leave.
Tinubu departed Abuja on August 30, with London announced as his first destination. The Presidency said at the time that he would return to Nigeria after the three-week period.
He subsequently travelled to Paris for the latter part of the vacation, continuing a pattern of high-level contacts with the French government.
The latest dinner was not the first private engagement between Tinubu and Macron at the Élysée Palace. In September 2025, Tinubu held a private working lunch with the French President in Paris, during which both leaders reviewed areas of cooperation and agreed to deepen their partnership.
Nigeria and France have maintained engagements across trade, investment, security and economic cooperation. The relationship has also featured prominently in Tinubu’s foreign engagements since he assumed office.
In May 2026, during another visit to France, Tinubu met international investors and presented his administration’s economic reform programme, stressing policy stability, fiscal discipline, transparency and the implementation of reforms aimed at attracting capital and sustaining economic growth.
That visit was followed by Tinubu’s participation in the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, jointly hosted by Macron and Kenyan President William Ruto, where the Nigerian President called for reforms to the international financial architecture and stronger economic integration in Africa.
Security has also featured in recent contacts between Abuja and Paris. In March, Tinubu said he had held discussions with Macron concerning equipment and support for Nigeria’s efforts against insecurity.
The Presidency has described Nigeria’s engagement with France as part of a broader foreign-policy approach aimed at using international partnerships to advance investment, economic development and national security.
Thursday’s private dinner therefore adds to a series of direct engagements between Tinubu and Macron, although neither government had released details of any specific agreements or decisions arising from the latest meeting as of Friday.
