The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has disclosed that domestic airlines recorded 4,765 delayed flights and 36 cancellations in August 2026, with Air Peace recording the highest number of delays and United Nigeria posting the highest number of cancellations.

According to the NCAA’s summary of domestic airline flight disruption operations, the airlines covered in the report operated a combined 7,961 flights during the month, of which 4,765 approximately 59.9 per cent were delayed.

Air Peace recorded the highest number of delayed flights, with 1,330 delays from 1,864 operations, representing about 71.4 per cent of its flights. United Nigeria followed with 943 delays from 1,231 flights, representing about 76.6 per cent, while also recording eight cancellations the highest among the airlines.

Enugu Air ranked third with 582 delayed flights from 878 operations, followed by ValueJet with 435 delays from 767 flights.

The delayed-flight figures show Air Peace and United Nigeria comfortably ahead of other operators by absolute number of disruptions, while Umza Air recorded the lowest proportion of delayed flights among operating carriers, with 52 delays from 403 flights, equivalent to about 12.9 per cent.

The NCAA data further showed that the majority of delays lasted between 16 minutes and one hour, accounting for 2,801 of the 4,765 affected flights.

Another 1,322 flights were delayed for between one and two hours, while 407 flights experienced delays of between two and three hours. A further 235 flights were delayed for at least three hours.

Air Peace accounted for 108 of the 235 flights delayed for three hours or more, followed by Enugu Air with 46 and United Nigeria with 41. Together, the three carriers accounted for about 83 per cent of flights delayed for at least three hours.

On cancellations, United Nigeria recorded the highest number with eight, followed by Air Peace with seven. Enugu Air and Max Air cancelled four flights each, while Green Africa, Ibom Air, Rano Air and ValueJet recorded three cancellations apiece. Arik cancelled one flight.

Aero, Binani, Overland, Umza Air and Xe Jet recorded no cancellations during the period, while NG Eagle had no flight operations captured in the report.

Overall, the NCAA figures indicate that roughly six out of every 10 domestic flights captured in its August report experienced a delay, highlighting the scale of flight disruptions across Nigeria’s domestic aviation sector during the month.
