Streams of Joy International, founded by Pastor Jerry Eze, has responded to a viral appeal by a Nigerian woman, Sandra Opara, who said she mistakenly transferred ₦1,640,200 to an account linked to the church and was seeking help to recover the money.

In a video recorded on September 11, 2026, Opara, who described herself as a single mother of two and a Christian, said she had participated in the NSPPD prayer programme earlier that morning, taken communion and made an offering.
According to her, about two or three hours later, she intended to transfer money to a Zenith Bank account for vouchers and registrations on behalf of people connected with Value Circle Africa but allegedly made an erroneous transfer of ₦1,640,200.
She appealed to anyone working with Streams of Joy, particularly officials responsible for the church’s accounts or finance department, to help trace the transaction and facilitate a refund.
“I don’t know what anybody can do for me, but please, I’m begging you people to help me. If you know anyone who works with Streams of Joy, with the accounts, with the finance, please check your accounts. I have my money hanging there,” she pleaded.
Opara stressed that the money was not hers personally but belonged to other people who were already contacting her for it.
“That money is not for me. It’s actually for people,” she said.
She added that the pressure from those expecting the funds had left her distressed.
“Those people are calling me, and they’re stressing me out. Kindly help me out to give me this money. I want the money back. I serve God, and I believe God can never disappoint,” she said.
Opara insisted that the ₦1.64 million was never intended as an offering.
“I cannot do offering of one million, six hundred and forty thousand, two hundred for offering. Please help me anyhow you can get this money,” she said.
She further appealed to Nigerians to help draw the attention of the church to the transaction, explaining that, as a single mother of two, she had nowhere else to raise the money if it was not recovered.
Following the circulation of the video, Streams of Joy International issued a response, saying it only became aware of the allegation through the viral footage and had not received any complaint from the woman before the video was published.
“We have become aware of this claim through the video circulating online. However, prior to its publication, we had not received any call, email, direct message or formal complaint from the individual regarding the alleged erroneous transfer,” the church said.
Streams of Joy explained that it routinely receives and resolves complaints involving erroneous transactions through an established verification process.
The church consequently invited the woman to contact it directly through its official channels and provide the necessary transaction details so that the claim could be investigated.
“Streams of Joy routinely receives and resolves reports of erroneous transactions through the appropriate verification process. We therefore invite the individual to contact us directly via our official channels and provide the transaction details so the matter can be promptly investigated and resolved,” it stated.
The church added that its team remained available to address genuine complaints transparently and responsibly.
“Our team remains available and committed to addressing all genuine concerns transparently and responsibly,” the statement added.
