The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, Nasarawa State Branch, has issued a fresh seven-day ultimatum to the state government to address its outstanding demands or face industrial action that could disrupt judicial activities across the state.

The ultimatum was announced on Tuesday by the state Chairman of JUSUN, Mas’ud Ubangari, after a congress meeting of the union in Lafia.

Ubangari said the latest notice followed the expiration of an earlier 21-day ultimatum issued to the government, expressing disappointment that no concrete action had been taken to resolve the workers’ grievances.

According to him, the union had expected the government to act on the report of a committee constituted by the Chief Judge of Nasarawa State to examine the issues raised by judiciary workers.

He said the failure to implement the committee’s recommendations had left the union with no option but to issue a final seven-day notice.

Ubangari warned that if the government failed to address the demands within the stipulated period, judiciary workers would withdraw their services.

Among the major demands is the immediate implementation of the 40 per cent Peculiar Allowance approved by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.

The union is also demanding full financial autonomy for the judiciary, a 58.1 per cent salary increase, implementation of pending staff conversions and the clearance of outstanding promotions.

JUSUN maintained that the demands had remained unresolved despite previous engagements and notices to the authorities.

The union said it had exercised restraint by allowing the earlier 21-day notice to expire without immediately embarking on strike, but warned that continued inaction would make industrial action unavoidable.

Ubangari said the workers were particularly concerned that the report of the committee set up by the Chief Judge had not translated into concrete measures to address their welfare and administrative concerns.

The union therefore called on the Nasarawa State Government to intervene within the seven-day window to avert a shutdown of court-related activities.

If the ultimatum expires without a resolution, the proposed strike could affect court administration and other services provided by judiciary workers across Nasarawa State.
